i read this just after the new year, when i’d just done my own year-in-review and set some new goals or focuses, and when social media was covered with people going “pandemic who?? look at all the things i’ve done this year”. and, well, if you are stuck in a quarterlife or midlife or post-graduation or first-year-of-college or fuck-it-sure-is-a-pandemic existential crisis: this is the fic for you. gentle, full of painstaking detail and care, and the revelations of finding yourself an adult bombarded by information about decisions you apparently should be making.

30k / teen / kyouhaba / bg iwaoi and matsuhana
this is a kyouhaba fic from watari’s perspective, which is really all i need to be sold. watari’s voice is perfectly wry and pragmatic, and the rest of the team (even the very minor seijoh characters who aren’t starters!!) are all present in the chaos. an extremely fun ride.

16k / gen / kurodai / captains squad incl moniwa!!
[gestures at the url for this site] bless kurodai captains squad writers for consistently writing moniwa into their shenanigans. relle does a thoroughly joyful, endearing job with this, and the worldbuilding is shockingly elaborate (as the sheer number of fantasy creature/tropes requires). if you’re after ensemble fic with a shockingly huge cast and a great sense of humor, this is the one.
(also, the fic graphic is hilarious).

socks wrote this a very long time ago and finally put it up this january. osamu’s having a crisis (that’s two osamufics i’ve recced, i’m not sorry), atsumu steps in. it’s rare that we get a fic that really embodies the way atsumu’s characterized by love, and this is it.

and the birds looking for a place to land. is very, very self indulgent. i tinker with prose, as is right for a fic inspired by a poem. ultimately, it’s an exceptionally concise capsule containing everything that yamayama are to each other, and some karasuno first-year dynamics and parental thoughts as a
leave the porch light on is shorter still! trans tsukishima siblings thoughts. both of these are character studies, more than they are anything else, and very soft.

33k / mature / ushiten / stz cast / au
this fic is pitch-perfect. i don’t actually know why it’s M rated (the sex is fade to black), but i do remember how lovingly ushijima and tendou are built as characters, true to their canon selves and to the ways that being neurodivergent or mentally ill as an adult making your way on your own can be. very, very worth it.

in which kenma is too horny for his own good. that’s it that’s the fic. in classic socks “solyn” yardeens style, it feels much shorter than it is bc it’s sprinting at a clip while being funny the whole time.
Epicurus
12k / explicit / ushimoniten in france / lots of alcohol metaphor
i. do not really know how to describe this fic, which is pretty common with fahs fics i think. if you’d like something that manages to both be dreamlike in its description of its beloved characters and their mental states and the tenderness with which they regard each other, and excruciatingly specific about the physical sensate details (alcohol, sex, paris, and otherwise) that build its world and people out, this is probably like nothing else you’ve read.
nsfw tony fics
many waters cannot quench love is my friend ao3 solyn’s fault, really, bc we were talking about people crying during sex. it was also entirely motivated by the fact that there were fourteen (now fifteen!) e-rated arankita fics on ao3 if you use otp:true to filter out all the sakuatsu. they deserve more! soft and sweet, sex comedy turned tender romance.
a collab with my lovely wife, who outlined and pitched the concept. i had a huge amount of fun figuring out the execution for this one — it does some things with prose and setting that i’ve never done before, and it’s deliciously intimate. baby’s first monsterfucking fic, and i think it’s a good one.
you were brave, you are splendid was a commission! you can get one too. trans woman ushijima runs into oikawa and iwaizumi post-olympics, and we get some intense, tender sex alongside a lot of character and relationship study in the form of touch and vulnerability. thank you again to danny for letting me write this for you!
