Something a bit different today, since I finally got my turnabout tarot deck π It’s everything I hoped for, and I’m thrilled.

I’m following the little red tarot deck interview spread for this one, as I’ve found it consistently useful!
I’m transcribing directly from my reading notes, so the tense/subject can be a little jumbled. Ultimately, I’ve asked this deck six questions as I introduced myself to it, and the answers are answers for me, written in second person since the deck’s talking to me.
It seems to have a strong personality, and I’m excited to work with it more!

1. tell me about yourself. what’s most important about you?
The Moon (Athena)
Athena makes an interesting Moon. Widget brings to light the usual concealment of the card, highlighting what is buried deep below intuition and the subconscious. This is, ultimately, a franchise about bringing the truth to light, isn’t it? About things coming out of hiding, about being more confused and afraid until everything finally, eventually, gets better.
This deck is an investigation. Open the court record and think about things from every possible angle. It will serve you well when the time comes to uncover secrets, even the ones you’ve hidden from yourself.
2. what are your strengths as a deck?
Ten of Wands (Nahyuta)
You’re a busy bee! You do too much, and you do it well, and β for reasons you may not fully be aware of β you do enough to both stave off and chase misery.
This is a deck of paring things down. The truth will out, no matter what you do. Seek honesty and take stock of your life; your true priorities will come to light. That’s what this deck does best β unexpected insight, cutting through the overload of life under siege.
3. what are your limits as a deck?
King of Wands (Dahlia)
This is not a deck about people problems. Well, technically it is! But it’s not interested in denial, or soothing hurt feelings. It’s not interested in cowardice, nor in feeding toxic authenticity. It doesn’t want to nourish impulsive actions or justify them.
This deck deals in nuance and next steps and truth. It’s practical; it’s there to shine a light on what is true, not to thrill in moral quandary. It is disinterested in lying β to yourself, or to others. No matter how charming you are; no matter how bored you are.

4. what do you want to teach me?
Six of Cups (childhood Miles, Phoenix and Larry)
Isn’t this what the franchise is about? Friendship. And if not friendship, trust. Time again the world is awful and cruel; time and again we can choose to remember the simplest, most devoted versions of ourselves. Time again we can choose to be them.
Tune into the most joyful, uncomplicated of instincts, and don’t fear the parts of the past β or present β that loom dark and terrifying. As I’ve been saying, the truth will come out. Believe in that. Believe in those you love. Believe in the person you always hoped you would become.
5. how can i best learn from and with you?
The Chariot (Franziska)
Keep hurtling forward. You’ve always been precocious, overthinking, putting on a front. There’s many things you got wrong, but here’s one you got right: giving up is for fools.
This deck isn’t interested in pensive complacency. It detests inertia. It demands that no matter how bad things are, you commit to action, and to that action being exceptional. Set your standards for yourself high, but cast your eye kindly on others. Discipline and courage β bring those and be rewarded in time.
6. where could our working relationship lead us?
Queen of Wands (Rayfa)
Rayfa is an interesting Queen of Wands. This is a Wands-heavy reading in general, but we’ll get back to that. Rayfa differs from your average Queen in how youthful she is β less sexuality, more coming of age. Like any other Queen of Wands, she embodies leadership and confidence. Most importantly, perhaps for her at least, she has grace.
She learns graciousness. Settles into the mantle she wears, once the truth comes out. It is a struggle β the truth wounds her as much as it sets her free β but it is the truth that lets her grow into the leader she can be. This deck makes no promises, but it believes in you.

In general, I’m already in love with this deck. Wands are the suit I feel the most affinity for these days, and to have that so clearly articulated here was a pleasant surprise. It suits the franchise as well, I think! That forward-moving, achievement-focused energy, and the chaos of it all.
There were some shipping issues: the box was definitely beat up on the way to me. Inside it, the deck box was a little dented and felt flimsy, and the print was entirely squashed and has visible creases across the print.
But that’s all I can complain about! It’s a remarkable labour of love, the progress PDF was a joy to read, and I’m very, very happy with it. I can’t wait to see where we go together.
